I have worked in the care industry for around 19 years, both in care homes and in a domiciliary care setting. I find the job extremely rewarding, knowing how much of a difference I am making to our clients and their families’ lives.
I have specialised in dementia care, as I feel this is an area in care that is still very much a taboo subject and not very well understood, so to be able to pass on my knowledge to others is so important.
I also love end-of-life care, because caring for someone close to the end is very warming on the soul. Knowing that you supported and cared for not just the client, but their families too, to make the final stages the best they can be, is a feeling like no other.
It doesn’t just stop when the client passes. It continues with the after care support too, for families. I feel very proud to work in a job where, following a death I can hold my head up high, knowing I helped at a difficult time.
I’m very fortunate to have beautiful grandchildren whom I get to enjoy my spare time with. I hope to increase that time in the coming years, as I prepare for my retirement.
